Team Acoustech!
Pics from Acoustech’s first meetup on June 2nd, 2010.
Acoustech loves TED. Check out this amazing talk on the production of OK Go’s This Too Shall Pass (Treadmill) video. Amazing!!
Thanks again to everyone who came out on Wednesday. It was a great discussion and it deserves to live on.
I’ve tossed together a MindMap of all of the topics of conversation, with a few links and a bit of additional information thrown in. Big thanks go to Tina, with her impeccable penmanship, who transcribed the conversation. Feel free to add to it if you think we missed anything important.
Stay tuned for more information on the next Acoustech session
We thought we’d toss out a few ideas of some interesting topics to discuss and some stories we’d like to share.
-Kickstarter is changing the way bands fund their operations
-@dshanahan can talk about what it’s like to be a Hype Machine blogger.
-I’ll try and pass on a few lessons I learned from my trip to SXSW Music this year.
-Some record industry executives are starting to look to Twittter and Youtube as a primary source of A&R. The whole world seems to have caught Bieber Fever, who started as a YouTube phenomenon.
-Red Rovr (a local startup) might just change the way tours are booked
This isn’t a strict agenda or anything. If you have your own ideas, be prepared to share them.
Also, leave your business cards in your pockets. @devsdevelopment will be collecting Twitter handles and we’ll post them all up here. @sonsryan will be shooting video to make sure we get all the juicy bits of discussion recorded somewhere.
So, the weather in Vancouver being what it is, we’ve made a quick change of locale this afternoon and will be gathering over at Alibi Room (map), possibly in the basement if they’ll open up the space for us. Either way, we’ll all roll in around 5:30 or so.
As a note towards what to expect, this is completely informal gathering of local tech and music lovers (you can love, one, both, or neither, really). The idea was to see what the community found interesting and chat about possibly organizing a groundswell endeavor to throw further meetups or even a larger event later this year.
If you hate that Hypem decided to work with BUZZMEDIA you can just talk about that, if you like. Maybe you just started using ExtensionFM and think it sucks.
Is there an album everyone must hear?
All that is cool…this is just whatever becomes of it. Music, tech, and how they play together.
See you later!
Acoustech is an exploration into the intersection of music and technology. New technologies are radically changing the way music is funded, created, distributed, and enjoyed. The goal is to take the pulse of Vancouver and see how this city is taking advantage of the opportunities these transitions bring.
The agenda of Acoustech will be set by the participants, on the day of the event (June 2nd), in typical unconference style. Anyone can suggest a topic and the direction of these discussions is set by the participants, not the organizers.
The event is open to musicians, technologists, industry vets, and anyone else who cares about the future of music.
This event is organized by a group of geeky music freaks in Vancouver. Contact anyone listed in the sidebar of this blog if you have any questions or check the hashtag (#acoustech) on Twitter.
The event will be held outside near Harbour Green Park Alibi Room (weather smart location change!) (map). Attendance is free, but you should be bringing your A-Game and participating actively. Of course, there will be plenty of time to kick back and enjoy a sunny (fingers crossed) late afternoon in a park. Stop by after 5:30 and come join us.
Geeks are music freaks. Music freaks are geeks.
Music and technology are inseparable. One wouldn’t be the same without the other.
Imagine a world in which Gregg Gilllis hadn’t started tinkering with tunes on his laptop. A world in which development sprints didn’t include headphones, tunes, and coffee.
From amps to sequencer softwares, iPods to iPads, the worlds of music and technology intersect in fascinating and meaningful ways. Acoustech is a conversation around those intersections, and a conversation between everyone involved.
Acoustech aims to be a chance for musicians, artists, tech geeks, and music freaks to get together to explore and celebrate developments in the myriad ways that music and technology collide. Innovative ways that artists are leveraging technology to further their craft. Music delivery advancements and the tools that musicians and fans use to connect.
Do you have a special place in your heart for music?
We do too.
Come to Acoustech and let’s explore the future of music and technology together.
